How Do the Appointments Work?

1st Appt: Initial Consultation (1.5-hour) is a comprehensive review of nutrition, physical activity, wellness assessment, intake forms and medical, family, and health behavior history. Blood pressure, heart rate, body composition, and girth measurements are taken. You leave this appointment with food, activity, and stress goals and reminder of what motivates you to make changes “stick”.

2nd Appt: Report and Education Session (1-hour) where 1) we discuss your risk factors based on the assessments, 2) you are given a meal plan that is calculated specifically for you, considering multiple factors that may alter your caloric needs, and 3) you are educated on how to make these changes happen in your day given your challenges, schedule, and multiple roles in life, 4) we set behavioral goals.

Follow-ups: All other follow-up appointments are 30 minutes unless we are doing a re-measurement at the end of your wellness or weight loss package (when body composition is measured again-1 hour appointment). All follow ups include weigh-in, follow up on previous goals, setting new goals, discussion of trouble spots and how they were handled, discussion of anticipated trouble spots (holiday eating, traveling, dining out, etc.), handouts tailored to clients’ needs. The number of follow-ups varies (See Selecting the Right Package for Me).

All Appts: Weigh-in, discuss previous goals, set new goals, health coaching and Medical Nutrition Therapy are provided at every appointment.

Meeting Frequency

These appointments are typically 2 weeks apart to allow you time to reach the goals set in the previous appointment. As these changes become second nature or more automatic, we spread the visits out to allow you to increase the confidence in being able to maintain the changes made on your own.

Packaged Services

Often insurance only covers 3-4 visits with a dietitian per year, but behavior changes often take longer to become habits. Often the 12-week or 6-month packages are more appropriate for wellness programs, weight loss, or chronic disease management–including eating disorders, are more economical, and address health behavior change more effectively. Programs for weight loss, wellness, or management of health conditions or chronic disease risk factors are tailored to you. Includes booklets, materials, and access to online food and activity trackers.
